More Botanic Garden photos
Here are two more detail photos of the display in the Botanic Garden. One of the gardeners added the little bird to the top of the bird cage wondering if we would notice. One funny thing about this display is that people feel free to mess around with it. Whenever we go down to refresh things, objects that are meant to be lying around in disarray are tidily stood up straight, Christmas balls are in new places, silver sprayed magnolia pods and pine cones are in odd places - it is funny - I guess they see it as a interactive display.

Tuesday luncheon
This is a photo of an arrangement for the ladies luncheon this past Tuesday and the room in the Sulgrave Club in Washington, DC where the lunch took place. The order was for something with daisies and we obliged, but put them with yellow roses, dusty miller, creamy tulips and seeded eucalyptus. We loved the color scheme of white/cream, yellow and grey - it reminded me of some vintage print tablecloths.

Christmas at the US Botanic Garden
In the week before Thanksgiving, we worked on a Christmas installation for the US Botanic Garden. We were given a 40 foot long by 4 foot deep raised bed and 2 smaller beds in the conservatory to decorate for Christmas. The color scheme had to work with the palette of colors used in the rest of the Christmas installations in the building - silver/cobalt blue. We opted for a very subtle palette of silver and the pale blue/green of spruce and junipers with mostly silvery and glass decorations. We also used a pale pink poinsettia with silvery leaves.
We wrapped trees in silver painted grape vine that jumped off and flowed over other plants. An old circular stained glass window frame leans against the back glass window next to the Christmas tree.
This installations will be up until January 6 and may evolve over the next 7 weeks - we have to fluff it up each week to keep it looking fresh.
There is also the most amazing outdoor train layout made by a group from Kentucky. If you are in DC - come and check this out.
This photo is one of part of the main bed - more posts will follow with other details.

Bar Mizvah flowers
Today's Wedding
Today we did the flowers for a wedding in downtown DC. The ceremony was on a balcony atop an office building with a great view of the Capitol, the reception was at a restaurant in Chinatown a few blocks away. We talked them into silk flowers for the decorations on the balcony and were very glad - it was hot hot hot and real flowers tied to the metal railings would have fried. The bride's bouquet was mango callas and Anny Black orchids with 3 rolled red Ti leaves. The arrangements for the restaurant contained yellow Cymbidiums, oncidiums, Anny Black mokaras and red glads.
